
Don Knotts Hometown Celebration

To purchase tickets for the events planned for the Don Knotts Hometown Celebration (July 18-19, 2008), please use the appropriate links below. All tickets are Will Call at the Metropolitan Theatre, 396 High St., Morgantown. They will be available for pickup Friday, July 18, from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday, July 19, from 8 a.m.- 7:30 p.m.

Friday Events:
- "Hometown Memories" - 7:30 p.m. - The Don Knotts Hometown Celebration will kick off with the comedy and memories of Ronnie Schell, on Friday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the Metropolitan Theatre in Morgantown. Schell, a good friend of Knotts, is equally at home in feature films, TV series, musical comedy or performing comedy on stage. Following Schell, Francey Yarborough, Don Knotts' widow, will share tales about Don, his memories of growing up in Morgantown, and adventures in Hollywood. Yarborough is an actress who has appeared in films and on stage with Don, including "Last of the Red Hot Lovers."
Saturday Events
- Apple Dumplings at the Garlow House - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Apple dumplings and refreshments will be served at the Garlow House, 351 Spruce Street in downtown Morgantown. Local Don Knotts memorabilia will be on display.
- Don Knotts Trivia Contest - FREE - 10:00 a.m. - Metropolitan Theatre, 369 High Street - How well do you know Don Knotts? Test you memory or come to learn the real facts about Morgantown's favorite son. Cash prize of $50 to the winner.
- "Memories: Don Knotts Exhibit" - FREE - 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Arts Monongahela, 201 High Street - Displays created by the Morgantown History Museum.Movies will be shown continuously. Memorabilia on sale. Author, Neil Brower signs his book "Mayberry 101"
- Kids' Day Events - FREE - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - High Street, Downtown Morgantown
- Hometown Tour - 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. - Tours depart from the Spruce Street United Methodist Church (386 Spruce St.)
- Ventriloquist Jon Goransen, demonstrates the craft that first interested Don Knotts, and talks with "Barney" about Mayberry. Tony Farley displays the Mayberry Sheriff car.
- "Tied Up in Knotts" Performance - 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. - Barney Fife impersonator, David Browning, kicks off both shows with his memorable Mayberry Deputy at with Karen performing her one-woman show afterwards. All shows are at the Metropolitan Theatre in downtown Morgantown, site of one of Don's first public performances.
- Look-ALike Contest - FREE - 4:00 p.m. - Metropolitan Theater, 369 High Street - Are you a potential celebrity look-a-like? Do you look like Don Knotts or do people liken you to Barney Fife? You could walk away as the winner of the Don Knotts Look-a-Like contest. Meet us at the Metropolitan Theatre from 10:00am to 2:00pm on July 19th. Or, enter yourself in the contest ahead of time by calling JoAnn Peterson, 304-329-6330 or emailing us a photo at gmct@gmctfoundation.org. Cash prize of $500, premium performance tickets and an autographed photo to the chosen winner.
