Don Knotts Statue Fund

To memorialize and commemorate the career of hometown legend, Don Knotts, the Don Knotts Statute Committee has been making plans for a memorial riverfront park in Morgantown to become home to a statue of Don and sculptures highlighting Don's career.

Well known local sculptor, Jamie Lester, has been commissioned to provide an initial design which is complete and currently under consideration. Jamie's recent work includes the design of the West Virginia quarter and the commissioned statute of basketball legend, and West Virginia University alumnus, Jerry West.

"The committee's primary desire is to honor Don's lifetime legacy and to remember Don as people knew him in real life," noted statute committee chairman and county commissioner, John Pyles. The committee of community members, political representatives and musuem members are currently planning a fundraising campaign to include a reception in late March in downtown Morgantown. Anyone interested in honoring Don's memory is invited to attend. More information will be forthcoming.

Please call the Greater Morgantown Community Trust at 296-3433 for more information on the statue, the reception or how to donate to the Don Knotts Legacy Fund which will provide funds for the statue and park.
