  • Morgantown to celebrate life of Knotts -

To commemorate the life of Morgantown's native son and his legacy, the first annual Don Knotts Hometown Celebration event is being planned for July 18 and 19, 2008. The schedule of events for the Celebration weekend culuminates in appearances by David "Mayberry Deputy" Browning, a favorite impersonator of Don's and an matinee and evening performance of "Tied up in Knotts" a one women show with Karen Knotts (Don's daughter) detailing her experiences growing up with the famous funny man.

Additional family and friends are expected to attend. Francey Yarborough, Don's widow, will share many of Don's favorite stories and memories at 7:30 PM Friday night at the Metropolitan Theatre in downtown Morgantown. The Birthday Celebration planning committee invites anyone with special memories to contact us for participation

Other planned events on Saturday include the Don Knotts Trivia Contest, Hometown Tours, Exhibits at various downtown locations and a generous serving of memories and apple dumplings at the Garlow House (also downtown). Kid's Day activities will be available as well from 10AM to 2PM. Anyone wanting to participate in a look-alike contest or to share their memories should contact JoAnn Peterson at 304-329-6330, or email your photo and information to mountaineer@atlanticbb.net.
